The Alberta Potters' Association invites you to apply for our 2025 juried exhibition, APA Teapot Show and Sale 2025. Our exhibition will take place on May 2nd, 2025 at NVRLND. arts foundation in Calgary, Alberta. Everyone is welcome to attend the event at NVRLND. as it is open to the public from 6-9 pm. Winners are expected to be at the show at 7pm to receive their awards.
Please apply with any teapot, wheel thrown or handbuilt, functional or sculptural, to our exhibition! To be considered, work must be minimum 75% ceramic.
You may submit up to 5 pieces. Submission fee is non-refundable and per entry.
Artists will submit their entries through ArtCall for the APA Teapot show. Artists must select the appropriate category for each piece from the drop down menu and will be judged accordingly. You are responsible for ensuring all entry information submitted for APA Teapot Show is true and correct. All artworks must be original and made by the artist applying. If applying with a collaborative piece, all artists must be notified and listed as makers within the description of the application. Artwork must have been created within the last 2 years and not previously shown with the APA.
This is a juried show, and works submitted are not guaranteed to be accepted. There will be three jurors who will form our jury committee. Teapots that have flaws, cracks or ill-fitting lids will not be accepted into the show.
Judges are asked to review the teapots on the following criteria:
Originality: Is there something fresh and new about the content? Is the work individual and/or personal in its approach?
Creative Expression: Is the piece memorable? Move you in an emotional or intellectual way? Challenge your thinking? Leave a lasting impression?
Technical Skill: Does the piece reflect high quality technical skill?
Surface Design: Interesting/Creative techniques used? Is the composition well considered?
Photo Quality: Is the image of the teapot clear? Is the background of the image clean and not busy? Do you have multiple images of different angles of your teapot?
All teapots entered into the show must be for sale. The consignment split for sold items is 30% to the APA and 70% to the artist. Everyone is welcome to attend the event at NVRLND. arts foundation in Calgary, Alberta on May 2nd from 6-9pm as it is open to the public for our show.
Winners are expected to be at the show at 7pm to receive their award.
The four judged categories are: (1) Best Wheel Thrown Teapot (2) Best Handbuilt Teapot (3) Best Student Teapot and (4) People's Choice. Prizes for each of these categories will be given out during the show if the winner is in attendance or mailed out after the show. Prizes TBA.
Wheel Thrown Teapots: Majority of the teapot is wheel thrown. Handbuilt attachments and off wheel alterations are allowed.
Handbuilt Teapots: The teapot is made not using the wheel.
Student Teapots: Teapots can be wheel thrown or handbuilt but is made by a student.
After the closing date March 21st, our jury committee will complete the process and artists will be notified of acceptance or rejection via email by April 10th 2025. Physical items must be delivered to Calgary, Alberta, Canada by April 25th, 2025. All work must be mailed in or delivered in a box or container ready for transport, clearly labeled with the Artist's name and contents. A second in-person jurying will occur when the Teapots arrive in Calgary. If the jurors reject a teapot upon handling, artists will be notified via email and the teapot will not be accepted into the show regardless of passing the online jurying. Remember, no seconds, no cracks, no flawed glazes will be accepted. Submit your best work!
Accepted works will be eligible to win one of 4 prizes during our exhibition. Best Wheel Thrown Teapot, Best Handbuilt Teapot, Best Student Teapot and People's Choice Award. Winners of each category will be notified before the event and presented with their prize at our in-person event at NVRLND. in Calgary, AB on May 2nd, 2025. If the winner is not present, the prize will be mailed. If upon the arrival of artwork, it becomes clear that the image file submitted was altered or is in violation of any of the guidelines and rules stated in this prospectus, the work will automatically be disqualified and shipped back to the artists at their expense. Entry fees will not be refunded. The APA reserves the right of refusal of any work that is not professional quality. NO seconds, cracks or flaws will be accepted when work is received in Calgary. Work must be finished and not in green or bisque state. Please apply with your best work. Work that arrives late will also not be accepted.

Terms & Conditions
This is a juried show. The application fee of $20/$10CAD is non-refundable. Accepted work will be shipped to Calgary at the artists' expense. If sold during the exhibition the consignment split is 30% to APA and 70% to the artist. E-transfers will be sent after 14 days. If the artist prefers a cheque, it will be mailed 14 days after the show. Any unsold local work will be delivered/picked up one week after the show. Any unsold work not from Calgary will be shipped back to the artist from the APA. The APA is not responsible for any damaged work in transit or lost work in the mail. If work is damaged during the exhibition the artist will be paid out their 70%.
